# Choosing the Right Packaging Materials: Keeping Products Safe in Transit

When it comes to shipping, the right packaging materials can make all the difference. Damage during transit leads to lost products, unhappy customers, and extra costs—so choosing smart, protective packaging is key.

Here’s what you need to know to keep your products safe and your shipping process smooth.

Start with the Right Box

Corrugated boxes are the backbone of secure packaging.

- **Single-wall** boxes are great for light or local shipments.
- **Double-wall** offers extra strength for heavier or fragile items.
- **Flute types** (like A, B, or C) affect cushioning and durability—match the flute to your product’s needs.

Box size matters too—pick one that fits snugly without excess space.

Seal It Properly

Use the right tape to prevent boxes from popping open.

- **Pressure-sensitive tape** is a go-to for general use.
- **Filament tape** adds strength for heavier loads.

Always use the H-taping method to keep boxes sealed during transit.

Secure Larger Loads

Shipping pallets or heavy items? Strapping adds an extra layer of protection.

- **Plastic straps** work well for most packages.
- **Steel straps** are best for very heavy or sharp-edged items.

**Protect from the Inside Out**

Fillers absorb shock and prevent movement inside the box.

- Use **bubble wrap** for fragile items, **foam inserts** for high-value goods, and **packing paper or peanuts** for general protection.

Match your filler to your product’s weight and fragility.

Label Clearly

Mark packages with “Fragile”, “This Side Up”, or other handling instructions to make sure they’re treated with care. Place labels where they’re easy to see, and don’t forget to include all required documentation.

- Use **recyclable boxes**, **paper tape**, and **eco-friendly fillers** like kraft paper.
