Buy & Give: Honoring Community with Hospice of Cincinnati

Discover how Hospice of Cincinnati and Millcraft’s Buy & Give program create meaningful impact through compassion, care, and copy paper.

When a loved one has passed, Hospice of Cincinnati provides free-of-charge grief support to individuals, children, teens, and families. Grief support is provided either 1:1 or in group services for up to 13 months – regardless of whether the loved one passed in the care of Hospice of Cincinnati or not.

The specialized, free grief support is available to anyone in the community of Cincinnati as part of Hospice of Cincinnati’s mission and vision to deliver “excellent care for patients and families through serious illness, end of life, and grief support, while also embracing health equity and responsiveness to community needs.”

Together With Hospice of Cincinnati

Established in 2015, Millcraft’s Buy & Give paper program grew out of Millcraft’s mission to create meaningful impact within Millcraft’s communities, and to give back to those in need. The initiative provides businesses the opportunity to support local charities through routine purchases of Millcraft’s Buy & Give brand office paper. For every carton of paper purchased, Millcraft donates $1 to the program.

Millcraft partners with Domtar – the leading producer of uncoated papers in North America – to produce and market Buy & Give multi-purpose paper throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia. Since its inception, Buy & Give has generated more than $600,000 within Midwest communities served by select charitable organizations, including Hospice of Cincinnati.

Established in 1977, Hospice of Cincinnati is the oldest and largest hospice in the Cincinnati region. In 2020, Hospice of Cincinnati and the multiple advanced illness and grief programs created by Hospice of Cincinnati joined together to form HOC Navigators – a collection of program offerings designed to help guide patients and families through advanced illness and end of life. Last year, these HOC Navigators programs served nearly 14,000 patients across the region:

  • Conversations of a Lifetime® - Learning how to talk about end of life

  • Social Connections - Alleviating loneliness and social isolation

  • Palliacare® Cincinnati - Providing relief from symptoms of serious illness

  • Hospice of Cincinnati - End-of-life care at home or inpatient

  • Goldstein Family Grief Center - Grief support surrounding the loss of a loved one

  • Fernside Center for Children - Supporting children, teens and families after loss

Hospice of Cincinnati serves patients in seven counties in southwest Ohio. Hospice patients with uncontrolled symptoms may be treated at one of four Inpatient Care Centers, but 90% of hospice care is provided where the patient calls home.

Shared Principles and Values

Millcraft Vice President and Cincinnati Regional Manager Mike Davoran says Millcraft Cincinnati chose Hospice of Cincinnati as a designated Buy & Give Paper program beneficiary in 2021

Davoran says the decision to select Hospice of Cincinnati was based on alignment with Millcraft’s principles of honesty, loyalty, and integrity – and on the shared value of making an impact within the community of Cincinnati. “Our team voted on who we wanted to partner with,” says Davoran. “We chose Hospice of Cincinnati because members of our team have experience, both personal and through friends and family, with hospice care. Once you’ve experienced the level of care provided by Hospice of Cincinnati, you understand how important the work they do really is.”

Angie Brinegar, RN, MSN and Chief Marketing Officer of Hospice of Cincinnati says, “I’ve been a nurse for 26 years, and this is by far the most meaningful work I’ve ever done. It is an honor to be part of the patient's end of life journey and to be there to support their loved ones. Hospice is truly sacred and special work.”

Millcraft awarded Hospice of Cincinnati $8,176 in 2021. Brinegar says the donation was designated for greatest needs, and Hospice of Cincinnati put the funds toward priorities related to staff, supplies, and programs – including the Goldstein Family Grief Center and Fernside Center for Children.

Brinegar says Millcraft’s Buy & Give Paper program reminds her of the perspective of the power of one. “Copy paper is such an everyday, ordinary item. Yet with Millcraft’s Buy & Give Paper, one person can make a purchase and become part of something greater that affects so many people in our community.”
